R James Healy Longlisted for the Aesthetica Art Prize 2025 Following Residency at CFPR

We are thrilled to share that multidisciplinary artist R James Healy, who recently completed an artist residency at the Centre for Print Research (CFPR), has been longlisted for the Aesthetica Art Prize 2025. His celebrated work, 20 GOTO 10, was developed here at CFPR in close collaboration with our researchers and technicians and represents an innovative blend of digital processes and physical craftsmanship.

During his residency, Healy worked closely with Laura Clarke Oaten, Master Technician at CFPR, as well as members of our wider technical and research team. Together, they explored the creative potential of combining computational design with advanced print technologies, resulting in an artwork that challenges the boundaries of what printmaking can be. The project draws on Healy’s fascination with perception and meaning- how we interpret visual information- and uses 3D-printed sequential forms to create a striking, thought-provoking experience.

Alongside 20 GOTO 10, Healy has been working with CFPR Editions to produce a series of prints that rethink traditional printmaking techniques through a contemporary lens. These “not-so-traditional” prints combine experimental processes with heritage methods, pushing the possibilities of what printed art can achieve. You can read more about this exciting collaboration and its development here: Printing Innovation for Artist R. James Healy This Summer .

Before his time at CFPR, Healy built a distinguished career as a visual effects supervisor, contributing to commercials, music videos, and feature films. His background in digital design and moving image has earned him international recognition, including a D&AD Pencil and a British Animation Award. This experience continues to inform his fine art practice, where his fluency in computational tools now converges with tactile, material-based approaches. His ability to bridge these two worlds resonates deeply with CFPR’s mission to explore the meeting point of craft, technology, and innovation.

Being longlisted for the Aesthetica Art Prize marks an exciting milestone for Healy and for CFPR. The prize celebrates cutting-edge work from artists around the globe and highlights creative practices that redefine contemporary art. 20 GOTO 10 has already drawn attention through its presentation at the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair, and this latest recognition cements Healy’s position as a rising voice in experimental print and material-based art.

We’re proud to have supported Healy’s journey through his residency and are excited to continue collaborating with him through CFPR Editions. His work reflects our commitment to advancing the field of print through research, experimentation, and partnership, and we look forward to sharing more as his practice continues to evolve.
