Celebrating 25 years of collaboration between Cecilia Mandrile and The Centre for Print Research
Celebrating 25 years of collaboration between Cecilia Mandrile and The Centre for Print Research, we will be showcasing Mandrile’s work in one of the first Curio Case Exhibitions at Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair (13-16 November), London.
One of Mandrile’s ongoing critical collaborative works is the series Quitapenas, a triptych of digital prints produced during her recent artist residency in Bristol in 2024 and in 2020 in glass and porcelain. Mandrile’s “Quitapenas” series based on the Latin American tradition “worry dolls, are printed, fragmented dolls that represent her personal experiences with displacement, migration, and reconstruction, with many pieces being rescued, stitched, and reassembled over time.
Biography
Born in Argentina, Cecilia Mandrile is a visual artist and printmaker whose work investigates the themes of displacement, identity, and the fragmented self.
She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in printmaking from the National University of Córdoba, Argentina; a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Maryland, USA; and a PhD from the University of the West of England (UWE), Bristol, UK.

Mandrile’s work is rooted in her own experience of migration and cultural translation. She employs print-based techniques—ranging from traditional printmaking to digital and mixed media—to explore the “fragmentation and fluidity of identity caused by displacement.” Recurring motifs in her work include portable objects, fragmented portraits, and travelling dolls or figures that symbolise impermanence, transition and the mutable nature of belonging.
Her career spans global residencies and exhibitions: she has exhibited at institutions such as the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA) in Long Beach, California, and the National Museum of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Her work is held in significant public collections (including the V&A) and she has held residencies at institutions such as Institute for Electronic Arts, NY and Emily Harvey Foundation, Venice.
