Resident Artists Deliver IMPACT 12 Keynote Talks
The IMPACT 12 Multidisciplinary printmaking conference took place in Bristol and online in September 2022, hosted by the Centre for Print Research (CFPR). Hundreds of printmakers from around the globe were welcomed to Bristol to take part in exhibitions, demonstrations, panel talks, workshops and networking at venues across the city. We were fortunate to have IMPACT keynote talks from three of our resident artists during the week.
The State of Print collective opened the conference with a ‘twinning ceremony’ and procession from City Hall Bristol, led by the brilliant Sambistas band, through the city to the Old Fire Station for the State of Print Exhibition. The exhibition further explored the theme of contested spaces, with participative work created during the residency at CFPR. The IMPACT audience was invited to engage with the new phase in the evolution of the State.

Tracy Hill’s talk Letters to the Void explored her recent practice as a visual artist. Through expanded print, installation works and collaborative art projects Hill’s practice explores the historical legacy of post-industrial landscapes, our forgotten understanding, lost relationships and connection to place. Perceptions of mapping, digital navigation connect with a modern obsession for locating, ordering and fragmenting our experiences.

Rodrigo Arteaga’s talk Convergence explored his practice, which moves between installation, sculpture, drawing and sound. His work deals with the complex relationship between nature, culture and representation. His interest in working across different areas of thought has led him to collaborate with specialists in fields such as Microbiology, Bio-Fabrication, Mycology, Natural History, Botany, and Architecture. His work often deals with the complexities between human and non-human relations, unearthing the coded enigmas of our relationship with the environment.
