Hugh Sanders teaches at Shrewsbury School of Art. He studied at the London College of Printing and the Royal College of Art.

Hugh Sanders’ locates his interest in printmaking through photography and the image qualities that are captured with such recording processes.. The artists primary interest with the photographic process as an image making device comes from the possibilities of concealment and the obscuring of origins. For Sanders the manipulation of an image predominantly takes place in the camera that then plays a pivotal role in defining the images, and much of the ambiguity in the work is created through the codes of the camera, such as focus, angle and framing. For Loading Bay Sanders emphasised his interest in super-real imagery and artists such as Thomas Demand and James Casebere – referring to them as visual guides for the effects he wanted to achieve with this particular printed edition.
